When Kelsea went home from school last Monday, she told me that teacher instructed them to bring mommy and daddy the next day which is their Moving Up Day (and Recognition Day for the grade school level). I always ask her how her day was in school and told me that all of them will be receiving medals. Well, that’s good for all of her classmates. They deserve one because they’re all great in their own special ways.
So the next day, Kelsea was so excited because she will be wearing her new dress and sandals. She chose the dress herself 🙂 She loves to wear shirt, shorts and rubber shoes so I’m glad to know that she’s still into dresses and sandals.
The ceremony was held in Angelo King Villarosa Hall of De La Salle Health and Sciences Center. We went as early as 8:15am (ceremony started at 9am) to get good seats near Kelsea. When we entered the hall, we were greeted by some teachers who were the usherettes and gave us the program booklet.
I didn’t know we were in for a surprise.
As I browsed through the pages and arrived at the Nursery list, I had a smile because each student got a special recognition award based on their personalities. Kelsea got the Creative Thinker Award. I remember her adviser and teacher aide telling me they observed that Kelsea loves to draw and do artsy stuff in school.
Then as my eyes scanned the list, below were special awards to three students. It was the Academic Excellence Award and Kelsea was one of the awardees. I hope you could imagine how happier Mark and I were when we saw her name. We didn’t expect it. Actually, I didn’t know that they give this award. But I know that she deserves it because she got high grades on the two assessment tests during the school year.
All our hard work were rewarded 🙂
Here are some pictures of Kelsea and her classmates while waiting for the ceremony to begin.
I was also looking forward to the presentation they were practicing for months. Sorry for the blurred shots but these were the Nursery and Kinder students singing the song Proud of You by Fiona Fung.
Only one parent can accompany their child to go up the stage so I asked Mark if he wanted to be the one. I know he’s so proud of our daughter. Daddy’s girl si Kelsea eh 🙂 But he told me I should be the one to go with Kelsea to receive her awards because I deserve it too.
I remembered my mom telling me stories on how she taught me when I was little. I made her (and my dad) proud back then when she got up on stage. Now I know the feeling on my own daughter. I told myself before that I don’t need my daughter to be an honor student because it does not dictate one’s success in the future. I don’t want to put pressure on her. I just want her to be confident and have fun in school and feel that it is just like home. Getting an award is just a bonus 🙂
The school also gave a separate medal to the parent which the child put on her own mom/dad as a sign of gratitude for the follow up lessons done at home. Teachers and parents worked hand-in-hand for the children’s success in school.
After the event, Kelsea was a little feverish (got the flu again). But we stopped by The District to have lunch at Sumo Sam because we were so hungry and wanted to celebrate a little.
Yummy food but a little pricey when you see the serving size.
Will I expect Kelsea to get an award and myself to go up the stage the next school year? No. But I’d be happy to 🙂
You always make us proud Kelsea no matter what! 🙂
Here’s the song Proud of You by Fiona Fung. This makes me teary-eyed whenever I hear this song.

Congrats Momma! I’m sure you were so proud of Kelsea! 🙂 Grabe iba ang feeling kung nasa stage ka because of your kid. Better than if you yourself were the awardee. 🙂
