Last Thursday afternoon, Dad was already given the appointment slip for discharge from the hospital after almost a week of confinement due to his stroke last week. It took me and my aunt almost 3 hrs to process his discharge in Medical City.
Dad is already a Lifetime member in PhilHealth so what he needed to submit were only the photocopies of his membership ID and Member Data Record (MDR). But since my dad is still incapacitated to sign (his right side of the body is still weak), he can’t sign on the PhilHealth forms.
My sister and I were supposed to sign in his behalf but we need to present 2 valid government IDs. We only brought one ID each so my aunt did the signing. Good thing she had 2 IDs on-hand. I better keep this in mind to always keep 2 valid IDs in my wallet.
Aside from PhilHealth discounts, he was also able to use his Senior Citizen discount and some discounts from his doctors. Too bad his HMO was not able to cover him this time since he had a waiver of coverage for his Hypertension (a pre-existing illness) due to a lapse payment years ago.
I would like give big thanks to Dra. Rhiza Valdes, an expert in Ambulatory Pediatrics in Medical City, a good friend and like a sister to my aunt, who helped my dad when he was brought to the emergency and for admission. Thank you also to Dr. Bate (Therapy doctor), Dr. Saniel (Neurologist) and Dr. Esguerra (Cardiac Rehabilitation doctor).
We were bound home around 6:30 pm. Thanks to a Tito and a Tita from my parents’ LNP community who lent us their driver and car to bring us home. Let me take this opportunity to thank the whole LNP community for being true brothers and sisters to my dad. They were there to help and support our family all the way. May God bless them more! Iba talaga ang samahan nila!
More thank you’s to family and friends who are all prayer warriors for my dad! Thank you also to a couple who are two of my parents’ true friends for the big help and support as well.
Since my dad can’t walk yet on his own, he’s currently using a wheelchair and a walker. Aside from his take home medicines, he was instructed to undergo Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy at home 3x a week for 2 weeks and then go back to his therapy doctor after 2 weeks. We’re happy that he looks so normal unlike those who really suffered a massive stroke. Our family is taking one step a time to deal with my dad’s condition. It’s an advantage also that my sister is taking up Nursing as her second course. She’s my dad’s private nurse at home 🙂
After a month, we are to face another challenge. His confinement took him almost a week in the hospital not just because of his stroke but also because of his heart. It was monitored to have an irregular heart rate. It beats so fast for a few seconds and sometimes beats very slow where there was a time his heart didn’t beat for 3 seconds when he was asleep. This kept the doctors very worried so they did their best to do the right mixing of medications to maintain my dad’s blood pressure and not slow down his heart. He was also seen by a Cardio-Electrophysiologist Dr. King before he was discharged. The doctors told us that dad may have V-TACH and need to undergo Angiogram a month from now. Actually, the irregularity of his heartbeat was seen initially when he had his first Pneumonia six years ago. We have to prepare for this procedure since we are not sure of what the results will be.
With God’s grace and love, we know dad’s in good hands.Â
